SCDIFA Cheshire Home

Information:

SCDIFA Cheshire Home opened in 1983 and is situated at 34/35 Turnstone Avenue, Bayview, Chatsworth, Durban. It provides residential accommodation and care for 39 profound severely disabled children, ranging from 5 years upwards. Many are abandoned or referred to us by the Durban Mental Health Society, Department of Health, hospitals and families not able to look after such children. These children need 24 hour supervision and many remain in napkins throughout their lives. In addition to basic care, skills, special stimulation programmes focusing on art, puzzles and physiotherapy activities are implemented at our Educare and Daycare facilities.

This home is subsidised by the Department of Health. Sadly this subsidy only covers 45% of our costs. The balance has to be covered by donations and extensive fundraising efforts. Due to the poor socio-economic climate raising funds is becoming increasingly difficult.

Cheshire Homes Durban's administrative offices are also located at this address.
